50 years ago (1962)

Phi Beta Kappa, the national scholastic honor society, initiated 31 seniors at Washington State University last week. Two were from Everett: Brenda Balsom, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Byron Balsom, and Connie Millard, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. P.S. Millard.

The Everett Civil Service Commission was seeking applicants for an eligibility list for the position of meter maid with the police department. Elmer Lewis, Civil Service Board secretary, said applicants must be at least 21 years old, U.S. citizens and Everett residents.

25 years ago (1987)

The Snohomish County coroner’s office, created during the middle of the last century and described by some law officers as past its time, would soon be retired to make way for a more scientific medical examiner’s system. The switch to medical examiner already had taken place in King and Pierce counties. Sheriff Bob Dodge welcomed the change.

The Everett Surgical Center at Pacific and Rucker avenues was recently advised by the Federated Ambulatory Surgery Association that its efforts to expand the list of procedures that Medicare would reimburse if performed in ambulatory surgery had been successful.
