50 years ago (1962)
Irvin Shackelford was the new manager of the F.W. Woolworth Co. store at Hewitt and Colby. He came here from Hanford, Calif., where he was store manager. Former Everett manager Mike Carmichael was transferred to Shackelford’s store in Hanford.
LeRoy Wigley, son of Mr. and Mrs. Norman L. Wigley, 4935 Elm St., enlisted in the Navy Construction Battalion and was leaving next month for training at Treasure Island, Calif., the first phase of two years of active service.
25 years ago (1987)
The 42nd annual Man and Woman of the Year in Sports banquet was coming up Feb. 4 at the Everett Pacific Hotel. Chuck Nelson would be master of ceremonies and Chip Hanauer, keynote speaker. Contestants were Bob Bavasi, Vicki Borsheim, Chris Chandler, Kris Keltner, Amy Pettersen, Lloyd Seibert, Jennifer Verbeck and Phil Zevenbergen.
Highway 530 between Stanwood and Conway was scheduled to reopen this week after being closed five months for bridge replacement work. John Hayes, project manager for the state Department of Transportation, said there were unavoidable delays that held the project up, including Thanksgiving week flooding.
