50 years ago (1961)
Gotch Doty, manager of the Everett Chamber of Commerce, had arranged a deal with Century 21 to sell tickets for the Seattle World’s Fair in Everett. Jaycee Allen White explained ticket sales, saying over $400 was in the kitty. Construction of Everett’s new Garden Mausoleum on a hillside in Evergreen Cemetery was planned for approximately March 15. It would include a large heated committal chapel area and columbarium.
25 years ago (1986)
Everett City Council member Bob Overstreet was elected to the board of directors of the National League of Cities during the league’s national conference at San Antonio, Texas. Earlier this year he completed a one-year term as president of the Association of Washington Cities. He had been on the city council nine years.
An all-day event, including a program commemorating Pearl Harbor, was scheduled to take place in the Startup Gymnasium. The Sky Valley Christmas Fiesta would include a flea market, arts and crafts booth and an auction. It was sponsored Sky Valley Eagles Lodge and chaired by Betty Craig.
