50 YEARS AGO (1960)
Lauri Denise Eder, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank M. Eder of 4414 Ridgemont Drive, turned a year old today. Grandparents were Mr. and Mrs. Charles Gay of Granite Falls and Mrs. J.H. Daily of Everett. Lauri’s three brothers are John (“Mike”), 17, William (“Bill”), 15, and Mark, 12.
Expected to be completed by the end of the year, work was now under way for a new Snohomish County Public Utilities District building on the road between Stanwood and East Stanwood. Of concrete and brick construction, it would include an auditorium seating 50.
25 YEARS AGO (1985)
David Livingston displayed old meeting minutes as the Pioneer Boys and Girls Association met for its 69th gathering. The club, founded in 1916 when a dozen young women decided to have a picnic, had been meeting ever since.
William Hansen, who had retired to Whidbey Island, was joining the growing trend of seniors seeking a new lifestyle at a Lynnwood retirement complex. Homes like his — the new Continental Retirement Inn — offered daily outings with other seniors, restaurant-type service, and 24-hour security.
