50 YEARS AGO (1960)
Stan Lloyd, retiring chairman, and Paul Alley, new chairman of the Trade Development Committee of Everett Chamber of Commerce, looked over plans for the annual More in Everett campaign scheduled this Friday and Saturday. Everett merchants were joining in offering bargains and services to the public.
Smorgasbord would be served Saturday in Silvana’s Viking Hall by the Sons and Daughters of Norway. Scandinavian food would be featured. In costume for the event were Irene Vognild, Agnes Sande, Margaret Engstrom and Olive Rod.
25 YEARS AGO (1985)
Everett and the U.S. Navy had a chance to get better acquainted this weekend with a visit from the Navy destroyer USS Ingersoll. Crew members had a chance to check out the city that might become their home. Families like those of Kent Johnson of Marysville had a chance to tour the vessel.
The construction of a Tulalip Tribes cultural center might be a solution to the nagging issue it faced, that of preserving significant artifacts, artworks, photographs and documents. Tulalip storyteller Frank Madison said it would be a gift to their descendents.
