50 YEARS AGO (1960)
Normanna Hall, home of Normanna Lodge, Sons of Norway, would be the scene of two nights’ celebration tonight and Saturday, the result of the paying off of the last of the outstanding building costs. In 13 years, the lodge had paid off $122,600 in mortgages, buildings, bonds and a loan, as well as meeting all interest payments.
Janet Elizabeth Westmoreland was named the 1960 Betty Crocker Homemaker of Tomorrow at Everett High School. She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Benjamin L. Westmoreland of 1311 Rucker Ave.
25 YEARS AGO (1985)
Tina Eddy hit two free throws with two seconds left in overtime to give Arlington a 45-43 victory over Burlington in Northwest League girls’ basketball action. Tina Bumgarner led the Eagles in scoring with 19 points while teammate Jill Allyn added 12. Kathy Mani grabbed 11 rebounds.
Despite a slow start, Coach Ray Cresap’s boys basketball team at Stanwood High School had won its last six games. Paralleling the Spartans’ rise was the emergence of Troy Stang as one of the Northwest League’s most persistent big men. Stang scored 23 points and hauled in 15 rebounds in a 61-56 victory over Bellingham.
