Tippling Tips: For a limited time, Silvertips fans can break away from the Molson’s and try a big, yet satisfying wine that goes down smooth and is sure to score a goal with guests.
The Northwest Totem Cellars owner and the owner of the Everett Silvertips are good friends who got to talking one day about how they enjoy wine and hockey. Then before you could say Kyle Beach, they decided to bottle a wine for Silvertips fans.
The powerful cabernet from the Elerding Vineyard was blended with 5 percent merlot at Chandler Reach Vineyard and aged 21 months in 75 percent new French oak. According to Kevin Nasr at Wicked Cellars said this is no hockey puck of a wine. It’s a blend of aromas of blackberry and currant with smooth notes of vanilla from the oak.
“It’s a very nice Washington cab,” Nasr said. It’s the same wine as Northwest Totem Cellars’ 2006 cab but with the Silvertips label.
Bottles of the Everett Silvertips Northwest Totem Cellars 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon are on sale now at Wicked Cellars, 2616 Colby Ave., Everett. Sale price is $32.99.
Only about five cases of the Silvertips wine were produced and there’s only one case left at Wicked Cellars.
