The Scots will be mixing it up in Index on Oct. 7, bringing fiddle and guitar music.
The concert will feature Scottish traditional fiddler Ryan McKasson, who will be joined by Dave Bartley on guitar.
In 1996, McKasson was the youngest musician to win the National Scottish Fiddle Championship.
In 2004, he and his sister Cali formed the band, The McKassons, and since 2002 he’s been the fiddler for the contra dance band, The Syncopaths, according to his biography.
McKasson has taught at numerous fiddle schools and camps, including the Rocky Mountain Fiddle Camp, Boston Harbor Scottish Fiddling School and Washington state’s Festival of American Fiddle Tunes and has performed at concert halls and folk venues throughout the U.S.
He has also recorded with well-known Scottish fiddlers Hanneke Cassel and Alasdair Fraser, according to press material.
Bartley has performed traditional Celtic and Balkan music, and is also comfortable playing classical music with the Seattle Symphony and Seattle Opera, as well as jazz, rock, swing and cabaret music.
The concert begins at 7 p.m. at The River House at the corner of Fifth and A streets in Index.
Admission is by donation of any amount at the door.
The concert benefits the Index Museum and is sponsored in part by Northwest Heritage Resources and the National Endowment for the Arts.
