On stage: Cameron has acted for three years and been in seven different shows at Mountlake Terrace High School. He got involved in theater his freshman year when his friend invited him to be the props manager for a play. Like his mom, Cameron has always enjoyed singing, and as soon as he tried acting he was hooked.
Jester: He is currently starring as the court jester in the school production of “Once Upon a Mattress.” He likes the part because it enables him to use some of the dance skills he picked up during classes at the The 5th Avenue Theatre in Seattle. “It’s a really fun role.”
Tentative dancer: He took ballet, tap and jazz classes over the summer and into the school year. “At first I was like, ‘Oh gosh. Do I have to wear tights.” He didn’t and he’s enjoyed learning new moves.
Improv king: He’s the captain of the school improv team. The team placed first in Seattle’s Hogan Cup, an improv competition for high school students. When he’s on stage he tries to keep four things in mind: character, relationship, objective and the scene, which he refers to as “where.” He’s learned to think fast to make audiences laugh. “I don’t really know how I think of it. It comes to you in the moment.”
College theater: He auditioned for The American Musical and Dramatic Academy and was recently accepted. If he can scrape together the tuition money, he plans to attend the college in Manhattan, N.Y. next fall. He wants to major in performing arts and earn a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree. “It’s definitely a dream school. It’s a really well-known school. … The combination of being in the right place and having great training is what I want.”
Dream job: “I’d love to start in smaller theaters, but in the end I’d love to be on Broadway. … I like the idea of a live audience. When I get out on stage, there’s just something when you have all these people watching you.”
The prez: Cameron is the student body president at Mountlake Terrace. He’s been involved in student government since his freshman year. “My brother had some hard times in high school, so I really wanted to make the best out of it.”
Big government: During his junior year, he was the president of Interhigh, the Edmonds School District’s student government program. Representatives from all the high schools meet and plan a community service project.
Old timers: His favorite actors are Gene Kelly and Carol Burnett. Of today’s actors, he likes Angelina Jolie and Meryl Streep.
Chicago love: His favorite musical is “Chicago.” He loved the movie so much, he decided he needed to see the show live. It was his first musical. He saw it with his parents three years ago at the Paramount Theatre in Seattle.
