Taproot Theatre Company’s Acting Studio will stage free performances of popular plays and musicals throughout the summer.
Youth ages 9 to 18 years will showcase their talents in productions specifically designed for young actors. The summer line-up includes: “Alice in Wonderland,” “Oklahoma!” “Seussical” and “Jane Eyre.”
Performances are held at Taproot Theatre, 204 N. 85th St., in Seattle’s Greenwood neighborhood. Admission is free, but donations for Taproot’s Acting Studio will be accepted. Taproot’s Web site will be updated with additional performance dates, times and productions so visit www.taproottheatre.org.
Productions showcase the talents of participants in Taproot’s acting studio summer youth classes. Students spend one to two weeks learning and improving acting techniques taught by some of the region’s most talented theater artists. Classes cover everything from beginning acting techniques to musical theatre to Shakespearean performance and culminate with final public performances.

The summer performance schedule is:
* 10 a.m. Saturday: “Alice in Wonderland.” This musical re-telling follows Alice down the rabbit hole where she meets the familiar Wonderland characters with a few new twists and delightful new songs.
* 4 p.m. July 21 and 10 a.m. July 22 “Oklahoma!” Students in Taproot’s Musical Theatre Supercamp 1 will showcase their talent with this American musical classic.
* 4 p.m. Aug. 11 and 10 a.m. Aug. 12, “Seussical.” Musical Theatre Supercamp 2 presents this fantastical, magical, musical extravaganza that includes many favorite Dr. Seuss characters: Horton the Elephant, Gertrude McFuzz, Lazy Mayzie, the Cat in the Hat and the Whos of Whoville.
* 4 p.m. Aug. 25 and 10 a.m. Aug. 26, “Jane Eyre.” Taproot’s Advanced Musical Theatre Supercamp brings the Charlotte Bronte classic to life. Filled with soaring melodies and romantic lyricism, “Jane Eyre” is a breathtaking tale of love and overcoming obstacles.
Dramas in Anacortes: Anacortes Community Theatre presents two dramas this weekend.
“Mary’s Frantic Search for Truth” is about Mary in the last moments of her life as she desperately searches for the one moment of truth that will redeem her before she dies. Amanda Savage directs.
The second drama, “Bang, Bang, You’re Dead,” follows a young man who has just killed several of his classmates and reflects on what brought him to the choices he made and the consequences of his actions. Starring a dozen talented young actors from Anacortes, the drama is directed by Melissa Begin.
The dramas are performed back to back starting at 8 p.m.today and Saturday at Anacortes Community Theatre, 918 M Ave. All tickets are $7.
