Author with drive: Terry Trueman, author of the award-winning book “Stuck in Neutral,” will offer a free book signing and talk at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Everett Public Library, 2702 Hoyt Ave.
Trueman has written several books for children and young adults, including “No Right Turn” and “Cruise Control,” a companion story to “Stuck in Neutral,” which tells the story of a 14-year-old boy, Shawn McDaniel, who has cerebral palsy and cannot communicate with his family, including his father, who believes his son is miserable and wants to die.
Shawn, despite his father’s fascination with mercy killings, is happy and has no death wish. Shawn’s story, according to critics, presents a poignant metaphor for teens who may feel misunderstood or shortchanged by their circumstances.
Trueman, who lives in Spokane and has a son with cerebral palsy, will meet with teens for three days in the Mukilteo schools earlier in the week. He will also appear at the Mukilteo Library at 7 p.m. May 29. Go to www.epls.org and click on “Calendar of Events” or www.sno-isle.org and click on “Teens” and “Teen Events” for more details.
