Pumpkin is a golden-eyed, three-legged Chow Chow seeking a no-drama, breed-experienced home. She greets staff and volunteers at the shelter with a smile and happy dance, excited about going for walks. She has been very well behaved at the shelter with a routine, and care she finds reliable and comfortable, but past reports indicate she becomes scared when put in confrontational situations — or if startled while sleeping — and may nip in response.
Though she passed a thorough behavior assessment with flying colors, it is vital that her new people truly understand that Pumpkin requires consistency, dependability, and positive reinforcement to gain and keep her trust, and for confidence-building in adapting to yet another change in her life.
Pumpkin loves being brushed (which this breed needs quite a lot of) and is good with handling of her feet, ears, and teeth. She is an independent girl who knows the basic commands sit, stay, and come, but she’s quickest and most consistent with her responses when paid in bits of high-value treats (roasted chicken is golden.) She is house trained. Since Pumpkin only has three legs, bearing extra weight on her remaining hind leg, it is important for her to get joint supplements and regular evaluations by a veterinarian.
Pumpkin requires an adult-only home that is free of felines. She has not lived with other dogs, so will need a meet-and-greet to consider a match with a mellow resident dog. High-energy or assertive dogs need not apply, as they don’t qualify as no-drama home life.
Lionel is a handsome gentleman looking for a home. He came to us as a stray so we do not know too much about him. He will need a meet-and-greet with any resident dogs. Lionel barks a lot when left alone so he is not suited for apartment living. Any children in the home should be over 8 years old and be able to give this guy his space when needed. Lionel is currently on medication to help with his joint pain.
The Everett Animal Shelter hosts thousands of stray and unwanted animals every year. Some are adopted right away, but some sit in the shelter for weeks at a time, waiting for a home. The shelter has dogs and cats, as well as some rabbits and birds, all looking for a loving home.
All pets are vaccinated, spayed or neutered, and given a identifying microchip before they are adopted. Take a look at some of the dogs, cats and other animals that are available for adoption at the shelter now. Here is the previous post featuring animals up for adoption.
If you’re interested in adopting an animal, the shelter is open daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. For more information, call 425-257-6000.
