She has incurable cancer, but Valerie Harper says she’s not ready to say goodbye, and she’s keeping herself open to a miracle.
In her first TV interview since disclosing her diagnosis last week, the 1970s sitcom star told the “Today” show’s Savannah Guthrie Monday that “‘incurable’ is a tough word.” People “hear it as this death sentence,” she said.
But Harper said she’s “more than hopeful. I have an intention to live each moment fully.”
“I’m not dying until I do,” she said. “I promise I won’t.”
Harper, 73, has been diagnosed with a rare brain cancer and told she has as little as three months to live.
She got the news less than two months ago during her book tour for her new memoir, “I, Rhoda.”
Harper won fame playing Rhoda Morgenstern on TV’s “The Mary Tyler Moore Show” and its spinoff, “Rhoda.”
“View’ from the top: Series co-creator Barbara Walters denied reports Monday that Elisabeth Hasselbeck is leaving the show because she has lost favor with “The View” for her conservative political stances, something Walters says “we value and appreciate.”
Walters also confirmed that Joy Behar will exit the show in August. Behar was among the first co-hosts with Walters.
Ellen stays: Fans of Ellen DeGeneres’ daytime talk show have reason to feel reassured.
Show producers and NBC announced Monday that “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” has been renewed through 2017. Some 189 television stations, including the 10 owned by NBC, have committed to airing it.
In its 10th season, DeGeneres’ show has scored some of its best ratings this season.
