Gordon Stewart, a Whidbey Island chef, has applied to be a contestant on the Bravo reality TV show “Top Chef.”
You can meet Stewart, chef at Gordon’s on Blueberry Hill in Freeland, at a cooking demonstration class from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at J. Matheson Kitchen &Gourmet, 2609 Colby Ave., Everett.
Stewart will make and serve wild mushroom napoleons; prawn and fennel bisque garnished with prawns and celery root; and tiramisu. Call 425-258-4589 to reserve a space. Cost is $47.50 and includes food and wine.
Stewart, a 36-year-old Arlington native, sent an audition tape and a 30-page application to “Top Chef” producers.
Even if he doesn’t make the cut, Stewart plans to keep applying. He hopes to publish a cookbook about working with local and seasonal ingredients; he’ll also share recipes and talk about his five years running The Bistro in Arlington under the ownership of controversial commune founder Love Israel.
“I’ve already been a chef all over Washington for many years,” Stewart said. “I want to just put my name out there.”
