Winemakers duel in dinner at Lombardi’s

In celebration of Washington Wine month, John Bookwalter of Bookwalter Wines and Jeff Gordon of Gordon Brothers Wines will compete in a Dueling Winemakers competition at Lombardi’s in the Everett Marina.

Bookwalter and Gordon wines will be paired with a five-course gourmet dinner presented by executive chef Tom Rhyneer. Diners can meet the winemakers and vote on the winning wines.

The dinner is 6-8 p.m. March 29. Cost is $50, plus tax and gratuity. Reservations are required.

Kenneth J. McNamee, executive chef of Seattle’s Columbia Tower Club, was named Chef of the Year of the Western Region of the American Culinary Federation during ACF’s 2004 Western Regional Conference at the Broadmoor Resort in Colorado Spring, Colo.

As Western Regional Chef of the Year, McNamee advances to the July 19 national cooking final at ACF’s convention in Orlando, Fla. The highest scorer among four regional finalists will be named the federation’s 42nd Chef of the Year.

McNamee joined Columbia Tower Club as executive sous chef in 1994 and was promoted to executive chef in 1997. He began his career in 1984 as a chef’s apprentice at Salty’s in Portland.

He has won 15 medals and trophies at national and international culinary competitions throughout his career, and has cooked for President Bush, Bill Gates and opera great Luciano Pavarotti.
