Since 1919, the Port of Kingston has served to enhance the economic and social well-being of the Port District community.
Originally formed to maintain a landing dock for Mosquito Fleet steamers that provided transportation around Puget Sound, it has since grown to become a facility that both supports the economy and provides a waterfront facility for recreation and leisure activities.
Today, the Port beckons visitors to Appletree Cove – by boat, ferry or car – to explore its beaches, trails, parks and the unique businesses and attractions that Kingston has to offer.
Marina
The Port of Kingston Marina provides long-term and guest moorage with full amenities, a small boat facility for SUP (stand-up paddleboard) and kayak storage, and is a hop-skip-and-a-jump from the spectacular food, drink and specialty shops downtown.
“The marina is perfect for either long-term stays or for people who just want to stop for the weekend and experience some of what Kingston has to offer,” says Kris Williams, Administrative Services Manager at the Port of Kingston. “Besides the great shopping, there are fantastic restaurants and pubs, or you can satisfy your sweet tooth at popular spots like J’aime les Crepes.”
The Port of Kingston’s Mike Wallace Park is a gorgeous expanse of green that hosts a variety of fun events throughout the summer.
Exciting events
Next to the marina and ferry dock is Mike Wallace Park, a gorgeous expanse of green that’s an inviting place for a picnic or just to let kids run free.
This summer, the park hosts events like the Kingston Kiwanis Brewfest on June 3, Kingston 4th of July Celebration and the Kingston Wine and Brewfest on July 15, not to mention live music events throughout the summer.
“The 4th of July Celebration is a really big event here,” Williams says. “And our beer and wine festivals are a great way to experience the local community and try something new.”
Residents and visitors alike can also enjoy the Kingston Farmers Market, happening from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sundays, from May through October.
Bring the whole family and check out local food, produce arts and crafts, music and much more – with a stunning view of Mt. Rainier as a backdrop!
Or simply relax and enjoy the sandy beach at North Beach Park, adjacent to the port and accessible via a public trail.
Convenient ferries
A five-minute walk from the Marina parking lot, find two ferries serving the Port of Kingston – the Washington State Ferry System, with service between Kingston and Edmonds, and the Kitsap Transit Fast Ferry, with service between Kingston and Seattle.
“Fabulous stay!” says a happy reviewer. “Ray and the staff are helpful and accommodating. Clean facilities with easy access. Access to restaurants, events and the ferry to Edmonds or Seattle was a nice extra. We will be back!”
