1 dead, 2 injured in US 2 crash near Index

The car left the road and crashed into a tree, according to police. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

INDEX — An Everett man died and two passengers were injured in a car crash Tuesday night on U.S. 2 near Index, authorities said.

Just after 9:30 p.m., the driver, Jason Wagner, was heading west in a Chevrolet Trailblazer on U.S. 2 at mile post 36, according to the Washington State Patrol.

The Trailblazer left the road to the right and crashed into a tree, according to police.

Wagner, 38, died at the scene.

A man and a woman were taken to Providence Regional Medical Center Everett.

After the crash, both directions of U.S. 2 were blocked for more than six hours.

The cause remained under investigation.
