MILL CREEK — What should be done with city parks over the next 10 years?
That’s a question the city would like to answer as it seeks input on parks and open-space planning.
Wednesday, the city will host a 7 p.m. open house on the topic at City Hall, 15728 Main St.
“We really want a read on what the community wants,” said Sherrie Ringstad, Mill Creek planning specialist.
The review is part of the city’s periodic update to its land-use regulations.
This year, that update is a little more extensive than usual, said Tom Rogers, the city’s planning manager.
City officials don’t have any specific proposals for park improvements but some areas under consideration for upgrades include a 10-acre city-owned site north of the Mill Creek Sports Park, and an unfinished park in the NorthPointe neighborhood off of 35th Avenue SE, Rogers said.
They’d also like to know what priority to place on trail development, sports fields, open-space preservation and community parks. Results of a survey posted on the city’s Web site so far have shown a strong interest in adding to the trail system, Ringstad said.
Getting the community’s participation in the planning stages should help the city when it applies for state parks and open-space grants next year, Ringstad said.
