11 men nabbed in Lynnwood prostitution sting

LYNNWOOD – Police arrested 11 men during a three-hour prostitution sting along Highway 99 on Wednesday.

The men were lining up two or three vehicles at a time trying to pick up female police officers posing as prostitutes, said Lynnwood special operations Sgt. Patrick Fagan.

The sting happened in the middle of the day near 168th Street SW. At least one man pulled up in a work vehicle, Fagan said.

“It’s not unusual to see these guys out here during their lunch hour,” he said.

The men were arrested for investigation of patronizing a prostitute or loitering for the purposes of prostitution and booked into the Lynnwood jail. They could face up to a year in jail and a $500 fine.

The area has a history of prostitution, Fagan said.

Police expect to do additional stings throughout the summer.

Police probe shooting at Lake Stickney launch

Snohomish County sheriff’s detectives were investigating the shooting death of a man at the Lake Stickney boat launch Thursday night.

Police were alerted to the shooting about 5:45 p.m. when a 21-year-old King County man arrived at Stevens Memorial Hospital in Edmonds with a gunshot wound, sheriff’s deputy Rich Niebusch said. A friend had driven the man to the hospital.

He was later taken to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, where he died, Niebush said.

Witnesses in the area told police that they heard shots fired and saw two vehicles leaving the boat launch area in the 1600 block of Lake Stickney Drive. No suspect vehicle description was available. It wasn’t known what motivated the shooting.

Anyone with information is asked to call the sheriff’s tip line at 425-388-3845.

Seattle: Robbery suspect caught on tip

Lynnwood police arrested a King County man Wednesday as he was knocking on the door of a Seattle hotel room that detectives believe he was about to rob.

The man, 48, was booked into the Snohomish County Jail for investigation of attempted second-degree robbery.

Police received information a few days ago from a confidential source that the man was planning at least two robberies, Lynnwood Sgt. Jerry Riener said.

Detectives set up surveillance Wednesday and followed him to the Seattle extended-stay motel. Police arrested him just as he was knocking on the door, Riener said.

Police believe it was the wrong room, according to information the tipster gave them. The man was armed with pepper spray.

Everett: Woman pleads guilty to imprisonment

A 43-year-old Gold Bar woman pleaded guilty to unlawful imprisonment Thursday for accosting two girls on a Sultan street April 21 and forcing one to the ground.

Vicky Lee Hoover, 43, then ripped out one girl’s ponytail holder, yanked the 9-year-old’s hair with her fingers and began braiding the girl’s hair, deputy prosecutor George Appel said.

Snohomish Country Superior Court Judge Ronald Castleberry sentenced Hoover to 45 days in jail, about the middle of the sentencing range. She should get out of jail soon because Hoover will get credit for time served, Appel said. She’s been in jail since April.
