ARCO, Idaho — A search is under way at Craters of the Moon National Monument in south-central Idaho for two Boise women who did not return from a camping trip.
The Butte County sheriff’s office and park officials began searching Tuesday for 63-year-old Amy Linkert and 69-year-old Jo Elliott-Blakeslee. They left Boise on Sept. 19 and did not return home on Sept. 21 as planned.
Park Superintendent Dan Buckley says the women parked their trailer at a campground in Arco, where their dogs and cellphones were found in a pickup truck. He believes they went on a day hike.
Ground searchers with dogs and aerial searchers focusing on a 5-square-mile area on the south end of the monument. Buckley says the search will include caves and other places the women might have taken shelter.
