SULTAN — A school bus slid on a wet bridge and crashed into a ditch east of Sultan Wednesday afternoon, but none of the children inside was seriously injured.
The Monroe School District bus was crossing a wet wooden bridge in the 26600 block of Florence Acres Road around 1:30 p.m., said Snohomish County Sheriff’s spokeswoman Jan Jorgensen.
When the driver tapped the brakes, the bus began to slide on the slick bridge. It made it across but ended up nose-down in a ditch.
The students from Monroe and Frank Wagner middle schools were able to get out of the bus safely through the rear exit. None of the 32 children was seriously injured, although three had bumps and bruises.
Another bus was sent to take the students the rest of the way home.

Man shot: Police cordoned off 112th Street SW for several hours Wednesday morning when a motorist reported seeing the victim of a gunshot wound lying in the street next to the sidewalk, police said.
The 26-year-old man was treated by paramedics and then airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. Police spokesman Sgt. Boyd Bryant said it’s believed the wound is not life-threatening.
Investigators determined the single rifle wound was self-inflicted, Bryant said. The shot was fired in some nearby woods, and the man apparently was able to make it to 112th Street SW before collapsing.
