FERNDALE — A fire official in Ferndale says a storage unit fire in a converted barn caused as much as $500,000 damage.
The Bellingham Herald reported that Whatcom Fire District 7 Assistant Chief Larry Hoffman said smoke was billowing from the eaves of the large gray metal building when fire crews arrived Tuesday morning.
Hoffman said a fire was burning in a locked unit in the middle of the five-unit building.
The building suffered structural damage and a ski boat, a truck and other belongings in the middle unit were destroyed.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
