Three area sailors recently concluded an annual military exercise while assigned to the aircraft carrier USS Kitty Hawk. They include Airman Dimas B. Prasetya, a 2002 graduate of Stanwood High; Navy Hospitalman Maria P. Ayala, a 2002 graduate of Oak Harbor High; and Navy Airman Sean P. Donovan, son of Rosann Ryan of Lake Stevens and Ronald Donovan of Marysville. The warship is deployed in Japan. It participated in a joint exercise between the U.S. Navy and the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force.

Air National Guard Airman 1st Class Ian A. Ouimet has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio. He is the son of Kevin Ouimet of Orting, and Jessica Ouimet of Monroe. Ouimet is a 2005 graduate of Monroe High School.

Air Force Airman Brian J. Bianco has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio. He is the son of Marjorie Bianco of Bothell. Bianco graduated in 2003 from Bothell High School, and received an associate degree in 2005 from Cascadia Community College.

U.S. Marine Corps Pfc. Casey Overholser has graduated from basic military training in San Diego. He is undergoing additional training at Camp Pendleton, Calif. He is the son of Randy and Kay Overholser of Monroe, and he’s a 2003 graduate of Monroe High School.

Air Force Airman Christine C. Mendez has arrived for duty at Whiteman Air Force Base, Knob Noster, Mo. She is an intelligence operations apprentice, assigned to the 509th Operations Support Squadron. She is the daughter of Andrew and Celia Ladette Mendez of Lake Stevens.

Navy Ensign Miranda Hastings, whose husband, Ryan, is the son of Kathy Hastings of Snohomish, recently reported for duty at Naval Hospital, Jacksonville, Fla.

Army Capt. Desiree K. Helmick has arrived for duty in Kaiserslautern, Germany. Helmick is a legal assistant chief assigned to the 21st Theater Support Command. She is the daughter of Ty Hiester of Arlington and Darlene Bessner of Mount Vernon.

Navy Seaman Apprentice Shane P. Dooley, son of Kristen Allred of Lake Stevens and Steve Dooley of Roseville, Calif., recently completed U.S. Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill.
