Air Force Reserve Airman 1st Class Nicole A. Hertel graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas. She is the daughter of Susan and stepdaughter of Richard Treharne of Brier. The airman is a 2007 graduate of Mountlake Terrace High School.

Navy Ensign Jennifer Gordon recently completed Officer Development School in Newport, R.I., where she was presented with the Capt. George Townsend Smith Leadership Award. Gordon, a 2002 graduate of Cascade High School, received a bachelor’s degree in nursing from Seattle University in 2008. Currently she is assigned to Naval Medical Center San Diego serving in the Nurse Corps. She is the daughter of Scott and Karen Gordon of Everett.
