LOCHSLOY — What is that?
Work is underway on a $3.2 million project to stabilize the eroding bank of the Pilchuck River west of Granite Falls. The contractor recently began installing an AquaDam and a dike to temporarily divert the river away from the bank.
After the river is diverted and all the fish trapped in the work area are caught and relocated, crews will pump out the remaining water and then start reinforcing the bank.
The bank is only about 40 feet from the edge of Highway 92. The project is expected to provide a permanent fix so that the roadway won’t collapse into the river.
An occasional detour around the work is posted, rerouting drivers onto Highway 9 and 84th Street NE. The goal is to have the project done by late September.
