ARLINGTON — More than 200 vintage vehicles are expected downtown for the 10th annual Show and Shine car show Saturday.
The free show offers a chance for car collectors and those who just appreciate a shiny old Chevy to get together to chat and admire the vehicles.
While most of the participants live locally, people from Vancouver, B.C., to Vancouver, Wash., travel to Arlington for the event, organizer Marilyn Bullock said.
It’s also a fundraiser for the Downtown Arlington Business Association, whose members are trying to buy an old-fashioned street clock to place along Olympic Avenue near City Hall.
In addition, the merchants association donates proceeds from car show registrations and the day’s raffle contests to the Arlington food bank, an entertainment program for cancer patients at Cascade Valley Hospital, and free horse-and-wagon rides downtown at Christmastime.
The car show is set for 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Olympic Avenue. Organizers Ken Johnson and Bob Ketchum plan to collect $20 registration fees beginning at 7 a.m. at the association’s table between Third and Fourth streets. Prizes will be awarded to show’s top participants.
Those who wander through the car show are in for a nice visual American history lesson, Bullock said. It’s a great way to see vehicles made decades ago and appreciate the craftsmanship of the car-collecting hobbyists, she said.
Information for car show participants is available by calling 360-435-5287.
