Girlfriends, we need to stick together. Especially if someone dumps us.
Or we dump them.
Regardless, there are hurt feelings. Two Arlington women know just how to ease the pain.
Their company, Girlfrenz Inc., offers thebreakupbasket.com as a place to buy a variety of goodies to make a sad, single evening brighter, with a nice movie, popcorn and a bubble bath.
Kristine Williams and Lisa Lang came up with the idea. They met when both worked at Pacific Topsoils in Everett and became best buds.
Williams, 31, who graduated in 1995 from Monroe High School, has a toddler son.
“Lisa came over one day and we started talking about what a cool idea it would be to start a gift basket company that was geared towards the broken hearted,” Williams said. “Girlfriends supporting each other when we need some mending.”
What makes a woman feel better than a chick flick, snuggly socks, candles and chocolate? Use what comes in the basket, perhaps paired with a good cry, and all will seem better in the morning.
Lang, who graduated from Bothell High School, is married to Matt Lang. Williams is married to Michael Williams.
“Our goal is to get our business up and running before Lisa decides to start a family,” Williams said. “We are hoping to eventually private-label the spa products we use in our baskets.”
They say their baskets are made to “Heal Ur Heart, Lift Ur Spirits, Lavish Ur body and Soak Ur Soul.”
Lang said best friends stand by when girlfriends go through many ups and downs in relationships.
“We can’t always be there to help pick them up and hug them,” Lang said. “It’s our job to listen, hold, cry and help heal.”
Their new business is about women supporting women, Williams said.
“It’s about being there when you can’t be there,” Williams said. “We hope a friend will find some peace through the gift.”
Lang, 30, said the pair have family members and friends who have been through bad breakups.
“I think we thought it would be fun to help out other women who may not be so lucky in finding another person to live the rest of there lives with, like both of us have,” Lang said. “We all need some comforting from friends.”
