Everett: Weigh in on transitional housing project
Domestic Violence Services of Snohomish County is proposing to renovate existing buildings at the former U.S. Army Reserve Center at 1110 Rainier Ave.
The application calls for the compound to be used for administrative offices and a 60 bed shelter for victims of domestic violence. The project also includes the future construction of a 20-unit two story apartment building including common space for meetings, offices, laundry, maintenance storage and rest rooms.
The public is welcome to comment on the environmental impacts of the project by Dec. 21. Studies and other information necessary to evaluate the environmental impacts of this proposal are on file with the Everett Planning and Community Development Department, 2930 Wetmore Ave., Suite 8-A.

Mountlake Terrace: Coffee with the city

Mountlake Terrace: City Council approves property tax increase
The Mountlake Terrace City Council last month approved a 1 percent increase in property taxes, both for general operations and EMS.
The increase to the city’s general property tax will bring in an additional $31,281 and the increase to the city’s EMS levy of $10,170 will not be collected in 2012 but instead be deferred and added to the city’s banked capacity to be collected when the assessed value increases in the future.
Residents pay $9.87 per $1,000 assessed value with $2.04, or 21 percent, of that funneling back into city coffers. Nearly half, $4.15 or 42 percent, goes toward the Edmonds School District.
Since property values are expected to decrease in 2012, city officials believe that property owners’ tax bills will actually decline.
Sultan: Winter Solstice to help bring “Holiday Cheer”
Sultan, the Sky Valley Chamber of Commerce and community members are hosting a Winter Solstice event to bestow comfort and embrace hope during the holidays. Snohomish County: Safety-themed coffee sleeves
Lattes and mochas may come with safety messages in Snohomish County starting later this week.
The county’s DUI &Target Zero Task Force, along with local police agencies, is giving espresso stands more than 6,000 coffee sleeves bearing messages about the dangers of drunken driving, officials said.
The sleeves feature a picture of a vehicle that is half police car and half taxi cab and say, “Choose Your Ride.”
The campaign is paid for with a traffic-safety grant from the Washington Traffic Safety Commission.
