Snohomish: Grants available for tourism promotion
Nonprofit groups can apply now for grant money that the city will make available in 2010 to encourage tourism.
The city may dole out $10,000 for projects completed by Dec. 31, 2010. Instructions and an application are available at www.ci.snohomish.wa.us. Applications are due by 4 p.m. Oct. 15 to City Hall, 116 Union Ave.

Snohomish Community Food Bank names director
Elizabeth Grant takes over as the new executive director for the Snohomish Community Food Bank today. The food bank’s board of directors announced its selection of Grant on Friday. She attended Maryville University in St. Louis, Mo., and holds a bachelor’s degree in communications. She lives in the Snohomish area.

Everett: Free yoga class offered for beginners
South Everett Neighborhood Center and Familias Unidas offer a free yoga class for beginner adults from 11 to 11:45 a.m. on Tuesdays, today through Nov. 3 at the fellowship hall of Faith Lutheran Church, 6708 Cady Road. Bring your own mat.
Wetlands work party on Saturday along Union Slough
People For Puget Sound and the Port of Everett are hosting a work party to restore wetlands along Union Slough. Volunteers are invited to work from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at this 34-acre salt marsh. The site is off the east side of Highway 529 near Biringer Farms.
