MOUNT VERNON — Authorities say a man suspected of fatally shooting a female taxi driver in Mount Vernon has been arrested in the Tacoma suburb of Lakewood.
Mount Vernon Police Chief Jerry Dodd says Lakewood police took the man into custody Tuesday morning and his investigators are interviewing him.
The taxi driver was found dead of a gunshot wound late Monday at an intersection downtown.
Witnesses reported hearing a pop noise and seeing a taxi van slowly rolling down the street and stop. One witness reported seeing a man run from the area. A woman in the area later reported that someone stole her car at gunpoint.
Authorities located that car at a home in Lakewood. They arrested the man as he walked out of the home.
Dodd says he doesn’t yet know the motive or what happened before the shooting.
