BELLINGHAM — Local and federal authorities are investigating arson at a Bellingham church.
Authorities say the Monday morning fire caused some smoke and fire damage at the Birchwood Presbyterian Church but no structural damage.
Firefighters found two set fires in the church. A small fire in a hallway was put out by a fire extinguisher. The church’s sprinkler system extinguished a larger fire in the sanctuary.
The Bellingham Fire Department and Bellingham police have called in the FBI and ATF to help with their investigation. Authorities say the fires were clearly the work of an arsonist.
