BELLINGHAM — After a five-week trial in Whatcom County Superior Court, the city of Bellingham prevailed in a lawsuit that sought $27 million for a woman who was paralyzed in a fall at a park.
The Bellingham Herald reported that the jury awarded no money Thursday to Katti Hofstetter.
She was 16 in 2005 when she slipped on a wet spot on a trail near a swimming area at Whatcom Falls Park and fractured her spine. She’s now confined to a wheelchair.
Her lawyer argued the city was negligent. The attorney for the city said it was an unfortunate accident.
