EDMONDS — A 24-foot fiberglass boat moored at the Port of Edmonds marina burned to the water line early Tuesday, sending thick, black smoke over the city’s waterfront.
Edmonds Fire Marshal John Westfall said nobody was aboard the vessel at the time, and nobody was injured. Damage was estimated at between $8,000 and $10,000.
The fire was confined to the one vessel, and the marina was not damaged.
The boat was hauled out of the water after firefighters used water and foam to suppress the blaze, which was discovered about 6 a.m. Westfall said little fuel was spilled as a result of the fire because the boat remained afloat.
Westfall was attempting to determine the cause of the fire. The boat had been tied up at about the middle of M Dock, one of the older, uncovered docks near Anthony’s Restaurant.
The owner was identified as Dan McGrewc of Edmonds. The vessel was a Bayliner cabin cruiser, about 10 or 15 years old, said Bill Toskey, port executive director.
McGrew’s boat had not been hooked up to an electrical connection, so other sources of ignition were being examined as the fire’s cause, Toskey said.
Edmonds fire inspector Mike Smith said the boat was insured.
