Boy on bicycle hit by van, flown to Harborview

EVERETT – A boy on a bicycle was hit by a van in the 2100 block of 96th Place SE Thursday, Snohomish County sheriff’s Lt. Arnie Aljets said.

The boy, 8, was taken by helicopter to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, Aljets said. His condition was not known Thursday night.

The road was blocked off as detectives with the sheriff’s collision investigation unit investigated the cause of the crash.

No other information about the crash was available.

Whidbey Island: Man dies in car-truck crash

A 53-year-old Mount Vernon man was killed when his car crossed the centerline and hit a dump truck Thursday, according to the Washington State Patrol.

The crash happened about 10:10 a.m. on Highway 20 at Arnold Road just south of Oak Harbor.

Two passengers in the car, a 38-year-old man and a 5-year-old boy, also of Mount Vernon, were taken to Whidbey General Hospital but later airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.

The dump truck driver, 38, of Mount Vernon was not injured in the crash.

The highway was closed for several hours while troopers investigated the accident.

Stanwood: Police search for missing girl

Police are asking for the public’s help to locate a missing 17-year-old girl who was last seen May 11 at Stanwood High School.

Gabriella Mercedes has run away in the past but has never been gone this long, her mother told police.

Her mother and teachers told the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office that Mercedes has the mental capacity of a 10- to 12-year-old child.

She may be in the company of a friend, Ashley Coty of Lynnwood. She also may be with an 18 -to 20-year-old man, James Owen.

Mercedes is white, 5 feet, 7 inches tall and weighs about 150 pounds. She has reddish brown hair and brown eyes.

Investigators have been advised that the two girls may be en route to Florida. Owen has been known to frequent the Seattle-Tacoma area.

Anyone with information about Mercedes is asked to call the sheriff’s tip line at 425-388-3845.

Lynnwood: Offender meeting to be held

A public meeting about a sex offender living in the 1900 block of 196th Street SW will be from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday in the cafeteria at Alderwood Middle School, 20000 28th Ave. W.

Ronald Lewis Barnett, 58, was sentenced to 20 years in prison for first degree statutory rape in 1981. The victim was a 5-year-old girl that Barnett knew. He was released in 1993 but returned to prison after violating his parole.
