SILVERDALE — The five Kitsap Animal Rescue and Enforcement officers have been equipped with vests similar to those worn by police.
The Kitsap Sun reports violence against police officers prompted the donation last month from Amber Gravett and David Tuma, the new operations director of the Humane Society.
The society contracts its services with Kitsap County, Bremerton, Port Orchard, Poulsbo and Bainbridge.
One animal control officer, Jorge Fuentes, says they usually work independently of police but are often seen by the public as law enforcement.
