EVERETT – Thousands of dollars of computers and office equipment were stolen this weekend from the Snohomish County-WSU Extension Office in McCollum Park.
Snohomish County sheriff’s deputies were called Sunday evening to investigate the burglary, officials said.
No arrests have been made.
“It’s disheartening,” executive director Curt Moulton said.
Washington State University runs educational classes and activities for county residents, including the popular 4-H youth program and the master gardener program, he said.
A janitor discovered the missing equipment and called police, said Janet Jayne, an office manager.
Details of the burglary were outlined in an e-mail sent to about 320 master gardener volunteers.
The thief got away with seven flat-screen monitors, a laptop computer, a camera, a conferencing phone, a camcorder, a digital projector, video conferencing equipment and more, the e-mail said.
The locks and alarms in the building were being changed.
Volunteers have offered to loan and donate equipment, Moulton said.
A speaker at a forest stewardship lecture Tuesday night was asked to bring a laptop and projector, equipment normally provided by the school, he said.
“We’re definitely not crippled by it, we’re just asking for help,” Moulton said.
The program is self-insured, he said. There isn’t money budgeted to replace all the equipment.
“It’s just kind of disheartening … To have to build up the equipment again so you have what you had before,” he said.
People who want to donate to help replace the stolen office supplies can call 425-338-2400 or mail checks payable to the Snohomish County Leaders Council or the Snohomish County Master Gardener Foundation, Attn. Jan Rainsberger, 600 128th St. SE, Everett, WA 98208.
