MONROE — Officials hope a graphic display will remind fairgoers not to drink and drive.
Through Labor Day, the remnants of a car that was crushed during a drunken-driving crash will be at the Evergreen State Fair booth No. 553. The collision ended four lives.
On Nov. 29, 2009, the car was struck broadside on Highway 9 in northeast Marysville.
Killed were two Clearview couples: Brad and Melissa Agerup and Thomas and Hilda Woods. The Agerups and the Woodses were friends and neighbors. They were returning home from planning a birthday party.
Matthew McDonald, 28, was later sentenced to eight years in prison for vehicular homicide.
The families of the victims gave permission for the car to be used at the fair, officials said. Local police agencies will take turns hosting the booth.
Brad Agerup was a longtime athletic trainer and teacher at Mariner High School. His football jersey was scheduled to be retired at tonight’s game at Mariner High School.
