Democratic candidates Sen. Barack Obama and Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton are scheduled to appear in Seattle just before Saturday’s state party caucus.
Clinton is set to talk to a crowd in Seattle about 8 p.m. Thursday at Pier 30 on Seattle’s waterfront. The event is open to the public.
Obama will appear Friday at a rally at Key Arena in Seattle. Obama’s event also is open to the public, but organizers recommend sending an RSVP to http://my.barackobama.com/page/s/seattle or call 206-529-3859.
Both candidates are trying to win a large share of Washington’s 97 delegates to the national convention. To secure the nomination a Democratic candidate must win at least 2025 delegates in order get their party’s nomination. An analysis by the New York Times put Clinton at 892 delegates and Obama at 716.
The close race puts Washington right in the middle of the campaign this Saturday, when all the Democratic Party’s delegates will be decided in caucuses.
The Republicans will choose their delegates using a combination of caucus results and results from the Feb. 19 primary.
Meanwhile, Janet Huckabee, the wife of candidate of former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, is also making a campaign stop in Washington on Friday.
She is scheduled to attend a rally at noon Friday at Northwest University in Kirkland. The event will be held in the Christian university’s Health Sciences Building, 5520 108th Ave. NE, Kirkland.
