BELLINGHAM — The Coast Guard has rescued an 80-year-old LaConner kayaker who found himself in distress in waters near Bellingham.
Petty Officer Colin White says the Coast Guard responded after someone noticed the kayaker in trouble and called 911. The agency’s boat found the man Thursday afternoon in the water clinging to his kayak. He was taken back to the Bellingham Coast Guard station where medics checked him out and cleared him to leave.
White says the man was not wearing a life jacket when the boat reached him.
