ASTORIA, Ore. — A Coast Guard helicopter crew has rescued a surfer in distress off Indian Beach near Cannon Beach, Ore.
Petty Officer 3rd Class Nathan Littlejohn said the Astoria Coast Guard station responded to a Thursday afternoon call from Cannon Beach police about a male surfer who appeared to be in distress at the north end of the beach in Ecola State Park.
The helicopter lowered a rescue swimmer, who secured the man in a hoist so he could be lifted aboard. The surfer was transferred to the park, and Cannon Beach Fire and Rescue took him to Providence Seaside Hospital in Seaside.
