EVERETT — Cold weather shelters will open this week in Snohomish County, with temperatures expected to dip into the high 20s.
The Monroe shelter was set to open at 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Monroe United Methodist Church, 342 S. Lewis St.
On Oct. 25, in response to the lower temperatures at the time, the Marysville shelter opened earlier than usual, shelter coordinator Nathan Ray said. It’s at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church on 7215 51st Ave. NE.
Cold weather shelters in Snohomish County open when it’s colder than 34 degrees.
Temperatures were expected to reach as low as 29 degrees in Arlington, Everett and Monroe on Wednesday night, according to the National Weather Service.
The chill was expected to last until Friday. On Saturday, Everett’s low is expected to hover around 40 degrees.
During the cold spell in January, the county had a total of 173 cold weather shelter beds in the county, said Tyler Verda, a spokesperson for Snohomish County Human Services.
