EVERETT — A crash on I-5 just south of 128th Street SW in Everett caused major traffic backups Monday morning, according to the state Department of Transportation.
Around 6 a.m., a flatbed gravel truck crashed into a Nissan that had been abandoned on the shoulder of I-5 south, said Washington State Patrol trooper Kelsey Harding. The truck spilled gravel across all lanes of the highway.
The crash blocked two right lanes on I-5 south, according to authorities. Troopers cleared the lanes of gravel, and the lanes are now open, but it could take “some time” for traffic to clear, Harding said.
The driver of the truck was not injured, Harding said.
“The backup is now 6 miles and growing. Expect lengthy delays or if possible, avoid the area,” the department wrote in a tweet just after 6:30 a.m.
All the lanes reopened around 7:30 a.m.
