Special session

for caregivers

Caregivers can learn more about body mechanics and how to safely move their patients in a workshop 2-4 p.m. today at the Stillaguamish Senior Center, 18308 Smokey Point Blvd.

The free workshop, "Body Mechanics for Caregivers," will be taught by Ed Moore of Delta Rehabilitation Center in Snohomish. He will show how to turn and move people in bed, how to maintain proper balance and how to protect against injuries.

Restoring plants planned at park

The city plans a restoration planting event at 9 a.m. Saturday at the City Light Woods Park on 236th Street SW.

This event kicks off the installation of the Pioneer Forest Project, a major planting program at the north end of the park using mainly native species.

The Brier Parks and Recreation Board hopes to install more than 200 plants on Saturday. The plants will help stop soil erosion near the creek bed, as well as provide food and shelter for birds, board officials said.

This also is a chance to learn about the new Informance Center, an outdoor amphitheater and the home of an outdoor class for Brier Elementary School.

The Edmonds hearing examiner plans a public hearing at 3 p.m. todayin the Brackett Room at City Hall, 121 Fifth Ave. N.

The hearing is on an application for a variance to reduce the minimum side setback and required street setback to allow construction of a garage at 7606 239th Place SW, which is zoned single-family residential.

Toddler stories told at library

The Edmonds Public Library hosts a toddler story time for ages 2 and 3 with an adult caregiver at 10 and 11 a.m. today at the library, 650 Main St.

Theater class

offered for kids

The Parks, Recreation and Cultural Arts Department is offering a "Tiny Tot Theater" class for children 3 to 5 years old 2:30-3:30 p.m. Thursdays, today through April 29 at 18900 44th Ave. W.

Children will play and act together to create a new story or tell a classic story, play theater games, use music and tell stories to bring the imagination to life.

Children will perform the play for family and friends at the last class. The cost is $43 for residents and $45 for nonresidents. For more information or registration, call the Lynnwood Recreation Center at 425-771-4030.

Baby Bee story time at library

The Mill Creek Public Library offers Baby Bee story time at 9:30 a.m. today at 15429 Bothell-Everett Highway for ages 6 to 24 months and their adult caregivers.

Pancake breakfast at senior center

The East County Senior Center will have its monthly pancake breakfast 8-10:30 a.m. Saturday at 824 Village Way.

The breakfast is a fund-raising event that seniors organize and operate. Admission is $3.50 for adults and $2.50 for children under 12. For more information, call 360-794-6359.

School will be in session Fridayfor students in the Mukilteo School District.

Friday is a makeup day for classes canceled in mid-January by a snowstorm.

The other missed day will be made up June 21.

Critical areas hearing tonight

The Mukilteo Planning Commission holds a public hearing at 7 tonightat Fire Station 3, 10400 47th Place W.

The hearing is to review how "best available science" can be used to set stream and wetlands buffers in the city’s critical areas ordinances and shoreline master plan.

Snohomish

Group will have baking contest

Pomona Grange in Snohomish, a nonprofit group, will meet at 10 a.m. Saturday at South Lake Stevens Grange, north of Snohomish at 103th Street SE and S. Lake Stevens Road.

The group will have a baking contest for members. Proceeds will be used for the group’s community services. For more information, call 360-668-9089.

Stanwood

Christian concert tickets on sale

Tickets are available for the Cheri Keaggy concert at 7 p.m. March 28 at Warm Beach Camp, 20800 Marine Drive.

Keaggy is a Christian musician with five albums. Opening for her will be Late Tuesday, a band from Bellingham.
