Rotary donates to County YMCA
The Rotary Club of Everett Port Gardner recently donated $500 to the Snohomish County YMCA.
Rotary president Thom Martin and director of community service Tom Greene presented the donation to the YMCA of Snohomish County president Scott Washburn and vice president of planning and development Scott Sadler.
The donation reflects the club’s continued support of the family programs and activities that the YMCA provides in Snohomish County.
Norcliff Foundation helps supply beds
St. Vincent de Paul recently received a grant for its Beds for Children program from the Norcliff Foundation.
The $5,000 grant will provide 33 beds for children in Snohomish County.
Marysville Kiwanis collects dog food
The Marysville Kiwanis Club collected 248 pounds of dog food on April 10 for the Marysville Community Food Bank.
The collection was part of the group’s annual One Day Service Project. Posters for the event were made by Kiwanis K Kids Club fifth-graders from Kellogg Marsh Elementary in Marysville.

Terrace announces officer’s promotion
The Mountlake Terrace Police Department recently promoted officer Mike Haynes to the rank of sergeant.
Haynes was hired in 2001 and has served as a patrol officer, detective, field-training officer, acting supervisor and executive board guild member.
He started his public safety career in 1995 with the Auburn Police Department as a corrections officer. From 1994 to 2001, Haynes served Brier as a reserve officer, commissioned officer and patrol sergeant.
He graduated at the top of his class in the corrections and basic law enforcement academies.
Rotary honors EvCC student of month
The Rotary Club of Everett Port Gardner recently honored Everett Community College student Elizabeth Grosvenor as its March Student of the Month.
Grosvenor is enrolled in the medical assisting program and will earn her associate’s degree in technical arts in spring 2011.
Dean Darrell Mihara and department chairwoman Christine Wilson of the Developmental Education Department nominated Grosvenor.
Marysville resident is dairy ambassador
Emily Neff received her dairy ambassador crown from her cousin at the 55th annual Snohomish County Dairy Women’s coronation banquet on April 17 at the Viking Hall in Silvana.
Neff, 21, was one of six candidates in this year’s contest. Her cousin, Andrea Neff, was the 2009-10 Snohomish County Dairy Ambassador.
Neff is the daughter of Jacob and Carrie Neff of Marysville. She is a graduate of Marysville-Pilchuck High School and Hillcrest Academy and attended Everett Community College. She grew up on a dairy farm helping with daily chores and calf feeding. She participated in various 4-H projects and showed Holsteins at local fairs. While in school, she was involved in treble choir and sports and has been active in a young adults group through her church in Arlington.
Shannon Rodeffer, the daughter of Jerry and Lynnae Rodeffer, and Emily Zylstra, the daughter of Fred and Christine Zylstra, both of Snohomish, were chosen as this year’s alternates.
The responsibilities of the ambassador and alternates include public speaking and demonstrations at schools and stores impressing the importance of milk in nutrition and promoting the dairy industry. They also present awards at sporting events and at local fairs.
Scholarship awards also were presented to five students during the banquet. The scholarship recipients were Evan Anderson, Kelsey Anderson, Timmy Lee Frohning, Ryan “Buddy” Furrer and Brooke Schoenbachler. Schoenbachler of Stanwood also received a 4-H award along with Furrer of Monroe for their involvement in 4-H. Glen Allen received the Honoree Silver Pitcher award and the Allan Borlin family received the Dairy Shrine Pioneer award.
Zonta Club honors local volunteer
Barbara Earl, president of BETS Consulting, Inc., was honored by the Zonta Club of Everett on April 15 as the recipient of its 2010 Virginia Gullikson Award.
The Virginia Gullikson Award is named for a Zontian and Snohomish County resident who spent her life helping others. Candidates come from Snohomish County and are volunteers who have worked to improve the legal, political, economic, educational, health and professional status of women in the county.
Earl is a Mill Creek resident who serves as board chairwoman for Volunteers of America, is chairwoman of the Paine Field Airport Community Council, co-chairwoman of Area Chamber Joint Government Affairs and serves on the boards of Rotary Club of Lynnwood, Martha Lake Community Club and Snohomish County Committee Improved Transportation.
Earl reserves 10 to 20 hours in an already full week of meetings, paperwork and client guidance to handle her volunteer responsibilities. She heads fundraising campaigns, recruits volunteers and leads committees.
