Ford dealership donates to Terrace booster club

Harris Ford recently presented a check for $6,000 to the Mountlake Terrace High School Sports Booster Club.

Members of booster club and school students accepted the check during the school’s Oct. 5 homecoming game against Meadowdale High School.

Arlington volunteer named to Kiwanis post

Longtime Arlington volunteer George Boulton was installed Oct. 3 as the Kiwanis Pacific Northwest Division 21 lieutenant governor.

Nearly 80 people attended the event, which was hosted at the Medallion Hotel. Former University of Washington football coach and motivational speaker Jim Lambright gave the keynote address. Former Arlington fire chief Jim Rankin was installed as incoming Arlington Kiwanis Club president.

Terrace Hawks get their own street

The circular drive around Mountlake Terrace High School now is known as Hawk Way.

City officials celebrated the name change, from 217th Street, with students and staff at an assembly in September.

The event took place along 44th Avenue W. at the courtyard bench, the last remaining element of the former high school building.

Volunteers lobbied the city to make the change, which city officials agreed to as part of an an already planned sign replacement program to meet new state requirements.

Pigs Peace Sanctuary wins $60,000 grant

The Arlington-based Pigs Peace Sanctuary, the recipient of a recent $60,000 grant from Chase Community Giving, is dedicated to providing a safe home for unwanted, abused or neglected animals.

The grant award is to be celebrated at noon Saturday at the Pike Place Market in downtown Seattle.

Boeing donates to Schack Art Center

Schack Art Center of Everett has announced the receipt of a $30,000 grant award from The Boeing Co. for several of its 2013 exhibits.

The award will help support the center’s upcoming exhibit schedule, including the Whidbey Island Surface Design group show in March, the biannual favorite Art of the Garden in July and the Fall Glass Exhibit featuring Pilchuck Glass School’s 2012 Emerging Artists in Residence.

Nearly 50,000 people visit the Schack’s exhibit gallery every year, which is admission-free to the public.

Last year, Boeing, its employees and retirees contributed $49 million to organizations in Northwest communities where employees and retirees live and work.

Established in 1974, the Schack Art Center (formerly the Arts Council of Snohomish County) is a non-profit organization that promotes the arts for the enhancement of the community.

Free clinic receives Everett Clinic grant

Safe Harbor Free Clinic, a walk-in clinic in Stanwood that provides health care and referral services to uninsured and under-insured patients, has received a $2,500 grant from The Everett Clinic Foundation.

The grant will help Safe Harbor expand medical services and offer patients ways to access low-cost prescriptions and alternative sources for health care.

Though this is the first grant The Everett Clinic Foundation has awarded to Safe Harbor, the clinic has provided doctors and nurses who volunteer their time on Friday nights at Safe harbor. The Everett Clinic and Safe Harbor partner to provide critical resources to the under-insured patients who visit Safe Harbor.

Safe Harbor has seen more than 3,500 patients, including some from as far away as Seattle and Bellingham, during the past three years. Housed at the Skagit Regional Clinic in Stanwood, Safe Harbor is open between 6 and 9 Friday nights. More info: www.safeharborfreeclinic.org.

Foundation hosts leaders from across county

The Greater Everett Community Foundation hosted its 11th annual breakfast event in September for 250 community leaders from across Snohomish County.

The event raised more than $65,000 for the foundation’s new initiative to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of Snohomish County nonprofits by offering training and workshops. The initiative expands the foundation’s mission beyond grants and helps ensure that funds are put to better use in more sustainable and efficient nonprofits, foundation officials said.

Tournament helps domestic violence victims

A group of volunteers who support charitable programs in memory of their friend John Sorensen recently donated $650 to the Domestic Violence Services of Snohomish County.

Proceeds from three poker tournaments in September at the Lucky Dog Sports Bar in Everett, One-Eyed Jacks in Lynnwood and Flights Pub in Everett were donated.

Those who helped included Dennis Winsor, Pat Beckdolt, Brad Hultman, Shane Opp, Jim Koran, Teagan Marshall and Jacob Bailey.
