Tree-lighting, Mountlake Terrace: The Annual Tree Lighting Ceremony is 6:30-8 p.m. Dec. 5 at Evergreen Playfield, 22205 56th Ave. W., and features a concert by Mountlake Terrace Elementary and Terrace Park Elementary students, a visit from Santa and the traditional lighting of the “tree,” a frame fitted with over 1,800 lights on top of the water tower. Winter walk: Friends of Camano Island Parks offer a guided community walk of Elger Bay Preserve on Dec. 6. Meet at 9:50 a.m. at the junction of Dry Lake Road and Elger Bay Road. Festival of Trees: The Cascade Valley Hospital Festival of Trees holds a free community open house, 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Dec. 6 in the hospital lobby, to view the decorated trees and wreaths available at a gala auction later that night. Community dinner: The Oso Fire Auxiliary and the Oso Firefighters Association host the annual Oso Community Christmas Dinner, 4:30 p.m. Dec. 6 at the Oso Fire Hall, 21824 Highway 530, Arlington. Dinner is potluck style (last name A-G bring a salad, H-P dessert, Q-Z vegetable). Santa will arrive at 5:30 p.m.

Boat parade: Lighted boats from area yacht clubs will parade from the Port of Everett North Marina (at 12th Street) to Mukilteo and back Dec. 6. The boats will depart the Port of Everett about 4:45 p.m. and can be viewed from many shoreside locations along the parade route, including Mukilteo Boulevard and Lighthouse Park, with a planned arrival off Mukilteo about 5:30 p.m. The parade is held weather permitting.

Stuffy sleepover: Children ages 2-7 are invited to bring their stuffed animal to the Mukilteo Library on Dec. 6, then come back at 2 p.m. Dec. 7 to find out what the stuffed animal did during a library sleepover. The library is at 4675 Harbour Pointe Blvd. More info: 425-493-8202 ext. 3232.

Meet Santa: Afternoon with Santa, an annual free community event, will be 2-6 p.m. Dec. 9 at the Camano Center, 606 Arrowhead Road, Camano Island. Fill the Bus: The Stanwood-Camano School District Transportation Center holds its annual Fill the Bus food drive event, 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Dec. 6 at the Stanwood QFC, Stanwood Haggen and Camano Plaza IGA. Or donate online at www.stanwoodcamanofoodbank.org.

Teen service hours: Middle school students (grades 6-8) can earn community service credit by helping out at the Mukilteo Library, 4675 Harbour Pointe Blvd. Volunteers will prepare crafts for library programs, pick up and clean up, sort books, and more. No need to sign up. Meet 10:30-11:30 a.m. Dec. 6 (first Saturday, September to May) in the teen area.

SVIE fundraiser: The Skykomish Valley Indian Education program in Monroe offers its annual “make and take” and family photo event, 1 to 4 p.m. Dec. 6 in the Wagner Center gym, 639 W. Food drive: Residents of Lake Ki hold their 10th annual food drive at 2 p.m. Dec. 6. Residents leave donations on their docks, and a crew motors around in a boat to pick it all up. Benefit concert: North Sound Church presents “Christmas in Edmonds,” featuring the Mosaic Arts Northwest Choir and Orchestra, with performances at 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. Dec. 6 at the Edmonds Center for the Arts, 410 Fourth Ave. N., Edmonds. Tips for Firefighters: Lake Stevens Firefighter Local 3235 will help host the tables and collect extra tips at the Lake Stevens Ixtapa for Tips for Firefighters, 5-9 p.m. Dec. 6. Proceeds will go towards purchasing Christmas presents for deserving children in the community who have been identified by the Lake Stevens Family Center.

Tree sales: The Snohomish Carnegie Foundation will sell about 200 Christmas trees Dec. 6-7 from its home in the historic Snohomish Carnegie Library building at Cedar Avenue and First Street in Snohomish for a fundraiser to help with further restoration efforts. The trees were donated by Puget Sound Energy from old tree-farm land it just cleared in Pierce County.

The Binky Patrol: A group of quilters, knitters and crocheters who make “binkies” for children in traumatic situations seeks volunteers and donations of fabric, yarn or thread. Meets next Dec. 7 (first Sunday) in Marysville. More info: 360-659-7198.

Trees for Salmon: The Adopt A Stream Foundation again offers its wild Holiday Trees for Salmon sale, 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Dec. 13 at the Northwest Stream Center, located in McCollum Park, 600 128th St. SE, Everett. There will be 200 trees of different varieties, from 3 to 6 feet, with costs raging from $35 to $50. Trees returned after the holiday season will be planted next to salmon streams in spring 2015. Hunt for Hunger: A scavenger hunt in Marysville to raise money for Operation Marysville Community Christmas and the Marysville Food Bank is set to kick off at 3 p.m. Dec. 13 from Jennings Park, 6915 Armar Road. Tree sales: The Oak Harbor Lions Club’s Christmas tree sale fundraiser runs daily, 10 a.m.-7 p.m. through Dec. 23 — or when sold out — at the park across from the Chamber of Commerce, 32630 Highway 20.

Wreath sales: ReNewWorks Home and Decor Store is making and selling wreaths for the holiday season. Wreaths can be purchased online at www.renewwrks.com/Wreaths. Buyers can choose between a basic wreath ($20) or a deluxe wreath ($30). Both are about 20 inches and made with live branches. Jail volunteers: The Snohomish County Corrections facility seeks volunteers for a variety of roles, including leading Bible studies and facilitating Alcoholic Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous meetings. Food drive: Maris and Associates holds a winter food drive through Dec. 23 from its office, open 9 a.m.-5 p.m. weekdays at 10512 19th Ave. SE, Suite 101, Everett. Food, paper goods, cleaning supplies, personal care items, pet food, toys, gift cards and monetary donations all benefit the Volunteers of America Everett Food Bank. Perishable food accepted 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

Cans for Christmas: Aluminum and steel cans as well as other scrap metals can be taken to Ace Metal Recycling, 11110 Mukilteo Speedway in Mukilteo, with proceeds donated to Cocoon House in Everett. Drivers: The kitchen at the Camano Center (606 Arrowhead Road, Camano Island) is in need of a volunteer on Wednesdays. The Camano Center is in need of several volunteer drivers to provide seniors with rides to medical appointments. Soup kitchen, Everett: The Salt of the Earth soup kitchen is held noon Tuesdays at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 2531 Hoyt Ave., Everett. Work clothing, YWCA: The YWCA Working Women’s Wardrobe program is in need of personal care and feminine hygiene products and also large department store clothing bags. Donate clothing: Faith Lutheran Church, 6708 Cady Road in Everett, seeks help with its Community Meals program through donations of gently used or new cold-weather clothing, including boots, shoes, sweaters, coats, gloves and warm socks for both kids and adults. Help with wardrobes: Clothes For Kids, a Lynnwood nonprofit that provides wardrobes for low-income families, seeks volunteers to help sort clothes, stock shelves, assist shoppers and more.
