Navy Seaman Tanner Mills graduated on Aug. 29 from basic training at Naval Station Great Lakes, Illinois. He was voted his division’s outstanding honor graduate by his peers. Mills is a 2014 graduate of Snohomish High School, where he participated for four years in the Marine Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps. His parents are Scott Mills of Snohomish and Diane and Michael Rugh of Snohomish. He currently is attending the Navy’s “A” School at Joint Base San Antonio, Texas.

Michael D. Johnston is an Army Reserve Officer Training Corps cadet involved in language and cultural immersion training. After a weeklong training session at Fort Knox, Kentucky, the selected cadets are deployed to partner nations where they are immersed in the local cultures and languages. The selected cadets will spend three weeks involved in assisting with Army missions that range from community outreach to teaching English to local children or host country military personnel. Johnston is a student at Gonzaga University, Spokane, and is a 2012 graduate of Glacier Peak High School.
