Volunteer: Food bank needs drivers

Volunteer drivers are needed at Concern for Neighbors Food Bank in Mountlake Terrace.

Volunteers drive to and from the food bank at 4700 228th St. SW and area grocery stores. They may be asked to take a Food Lifeline training course. Shifts are available on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday mornings.

ID safety: Shred documents for free

Personal documents can be shredded for free from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at Mill Creek City Hall, 15728 Main St.

Participants do not need to be residents of Mill Creek and can bring up to four boxes of documents to shred. It is not necessary to remove staples, paperclips or fasteners from documents.

A local food bank will be on hand at the event to collect donations of nonperishable food items.

Document Destruction Day is organized by Mill Creek City Councilwoman Donna Michelson. The shredding service is provided by Shred-It.

Seniors: Autumn dance party set

The Snohomish Senior Center will host an autumn dance party from 7:30 to 11:30 p.m. Sept. 26 at 506 Fourth St. The event is open to all 15 years and older.

Professional dance teacher Eleanor Leight will show basic steps. Music will be provided by Tom Lafferty. George Hobson Jr. will provide vocal entertainment. The $10 admission includes hors d’oeuvres and cider. Proceeds support the programs and services at the senior center.

Apply: Serve on housing board

The Island County Board of Commissioners is seeking applicants to complete a term on the Housing Authority Board of Commissioners. The term will expire on Dec. 6, 2010.

The mission of the Housing Authority is to promote adequate and affordable housing, economic opportunity and a suitable living environment for residents of Island County.

The Board of County Commissioners appoints Housing Authority Board of Commissioner members for five year terms and consists of five community members and one resident member.

Application materials are due by 5 p.m. Oct. 12.

Bikes: Learn safety tips at Sultan rodeo

Families with children can attend the free Sultan Safety Rodeo on Saturday to learn bike safety, have bikes inspected and registered to prevent theft and ride through the safety course.

The bike rodeo is from noon to 4 p.m. at Osprey Park at First Street and High Avenue. It’s sponsored by the city and the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office in partnership with Fire District 5, the Sultan Boys &Girls Club and Volunteers of America.

Volunteer: Help with soup kitchen

Salt of the Earth Food Bank in Everett is looking for a volunteer soup kitchen coordinator so the food bank can remain open.

The coordinator is responsible for making up the menu for the lunches. Several volunteers help the coordinator prepare meals.

The volunteer will work with a food allowance budget. Salt of the Earth Food Banks is located at 1328 73rd St. SE., Everett.
