LAKE STEVENS — Residents may have noticed cones along 91st Avenue SE near Hillcrest Elementary school.
The Lake Stevens Police Department placed the cones to protect the shoulder used by about 90 students who walk or bike to and from school, said Jayme Taylor, a Lake Stevens School District spokesperson.
In previous years, residents say they observed families parking along the shoulder while waiting to pick up and drop off students. Now, they wait in the roadway.
Police are working to reroute the drop-off and pick-up lines to help alleviate congestion and improve safety in the area, Taylor said. These plans are being finalized and Hillcrest families will receive an update from the school soon.
