ARLINGTON — Snohomish County has some dirty plans for your Valentine’s Day.
Don’t get the wrong idea. The Public Works and Emergency Management departments still need help cleaning up debris from last month’s flooding.
County officials hope a little mud won’t scare the public away Saturday, when they could use a hand tidying up ditches and bridges between Stanwood and Arlington.
A similar cleanup effort near Snohomish last weekend drew 39 volunteers, said Christopher Schwarzen, Snohomish County spokesman. By the end of the day, they had collected 11 tons of trash from 23 homes.
Here’s the plan for Saturday: Volunteers should meet at 8 a.m. at Patty’s Eggnest restaurant at Island Crossing on Highway 530 in Arlington. There, they can register and stock up on gear, including gloves, safety vests and safety glasses. Work will run until about 4 p.m.
There will be a lunch break around noon. Coordinators are working to get free lunch and breakfast coffee.
Volunteers are asked to wear work or hiking boots — no athletic shoes or footwear with open toes.
The city of Arlington and Snohomish County Fire District 19 are involved in the effort. Waste Management is donating a truck and driver for the event. Several other businesses have also pledged to pitch in.
